Letters from Lillie

Lillie Shockney presents the annual Survivorship Issue of JONS and commends the readership on their dedication to navigating patients to an empowered survivorship.
We enthusiastically present a “crosswalk” reference demonstrating the synergy between the AONN+ metrics and national oncology standards and indicators.
The Biden Cancer Initiative builds on former Vice President Joe Biden’s work on the National Cancer Moonshot Initiative by developing and driving implementation of solutions to accelerate progress in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, research, and care, and to reduce disparities in cancer outcomes.
Ms Shockney discusses the importance of clinical trials and extends an invitation to apply to the AONN+ Clinical Trials Committee.
This is your year to conduct research and share your findings. AONN+ and the AQUIRE committee can help you to reach this goal.
The beginnings of the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) were based on empiric knowledge that navigating patients through the maze of cancer care improves their clinical outcome as well as their experience.
On behalf of all of us at the Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship (JONS) and the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+), I wish you all a happy and healthy New Year.
Oncology navigation has made great strides in improving cancer care, including access to quality care, for nearly 3 decades. Navigation programs are well established for most patient populations with solid organ tumors, but less so within the patient populations with liquid cancers. I am pleased to report that this is changing, and it is wonderful to see.
On behalf of all of us at the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) and the Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship (JONS), it is my pleasure and honor to wish you a joyful holiday season and continued blessings in 2018.
In this Special Edition, we direct our attention to lung cancer and the positive impact navigators have had in this disease state.
