The AONN+ Standardized Metrics Task Force created the domains and related metrics to effectively measure the value and impact of navigation programs. It was their intention to present metrics that are user-friendly and promote the rapid adoption of metrics in navigation programs nationwide. Ms Strusowski has worked in a variety of roles, including oncology nurse, nurse manager, case management, and most recently, clinical director overseeing a multitude of departments, including cancer care management. In conjunction with serving on multiple advisory boards, she has implemented 15 multidisciplinary cancer center teams, including breast, lung, head and neck, and pancreatic and various other tumor site_specific teams. Ms Strusowski puts this rich work history to practice in consulting on the strategic development and implementation of oncology clinical programs within private practices, hospitals, and health systems across the country. She has presented and published nationally and has participated in the development of oncology nurse navigator core competencies and navigation metrics.

Ms Sein received her diploma from Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing and her BSN from LaSalle University, Philadelphia, PA. Ms Sein is currently an independent navigation consultant, providing expertise in building and sustaining navigation programs. She is retired from the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA, where she served as a consultant to Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner institutions to provide support with oncology program development. Main areas of expertise include multidisciplinary disease management program development, with a special focus on the role of navigation in cancer care coordination. She has held quarterly meetings for nurse navigators from Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner institutions for over 12 years for role development, sharing of best practices, and networking. The Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners nurse navigator group has held a conference for breast program development, authored a navigation manual for nurses new to the role of breast navigation, and developed a multi-institution research project in collaboration with Fox Chase Cancer Center—“Measuring Quality Improvement in Breast Cancer Care at Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner Institutions.”

In her role as division director for navigation at Sarah Cannon, Ms Johnston develops and maintains the navigation program and supervises its oncology nurse navigators. Additionally, Ms Johnston evaluates the program’s quality and effectiveness and collaborates with key stakeholders to implement and gain buy-in of Sarah Cannon standardized navigation processes and strategies.

As a long-time AONN+ member, Ms Johnston serves on the academy’s Leadership Council and is cochair of its Standardized Metrics Task Force. For her efforts, AONN+ recognized Ms Johnston with its “Exceptional Research in Navigation Award.”

Ms Johnston also serves on AONN+’s National Certification Task Force and helped to develop core curriculum and a test blueprint for the national certification exam that was launched at the annual meeting in November 2016. Additionally, Ms Johnston cochairs AONN+’s Evidence into Practice Committee, which has a mission of enhancing collaborative engagement by utilizing evidenced-based practices around broad quality initiatives.

Ms Johnston earned her bachelor’s degree from Azusa Pacific University and her master’s degree in nursing, with an emphasis on leadership and management, from Western Governors University. Ms Johnston is also a member of the Oncology Nursing Society in addition to being an avid researcher, presenter, and teacher.

Ms Gentry is part of an ongoing successful breast nurse navigator program at the Novant Health Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center. She is an interdisciplinary team member connecting 2 hospitals, a breast mammography clinic, a regional cancer center, surgical offices, and a variety of community resources in Winston-Salem, NC. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her master’s degree in nursing education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has been a member of the AONN+ Leadership Council since its inception and speaks at its annual conferences on nurse navigation issues. In 2012-2016, she cochaired the annual AONN+ conferences. She serves on the editorial board of The Oncology Nurse-APN/PA and CONQUER: the patient voice magazine and is breast editor for the Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship (JONS). She has also authored articles in JONS, Cancer, The Oncology Nurse-APN/PA, Journal of Psychosocial Oncology, and CONQUER: the patient voice as well as chapters in the books Delivering Patient-Centered Care Across the Continuum and Nurse Navigation Case Studies. She has been a member of the Oncology Nursing Society since 1983. She was a founding member of the Piedmont Triad Oncology Nurse Chapter in 1988 and has served in a leadership role since its inception. She was a participant on the inception of the Oncology Nursing Certified Breast Care Nurse examination and cochaired the Oncology Nursing Certification Breast Care Committee 2010-2012. She holds certification as Certified Breast Care Nurse. On nursing navigation commitment, she assisted in organizing the state navigation association—North Carolina Oncology Navigator Association. Ms Gentry travels nationally lecturing on the navigation concept. On the local level, she is a Piedmont Triad Susan G. Komen volunteer, serves on the board of the local hospice, and participates in the Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center Oncology Breast Advisory Committee.

Ms Bellomo has served for 10 years as an oncology nurse navigator and oncology clinical trials coordinator at the Intermountain Southwest Cancer Center of Cedar City Hospital in Cedar City, UT. Prior to joining Cedar City Hospital, Ms Bellomo had clinical experience as a registered nurse in the areas of intensive care nursing, otolaryngology, head and neck cancer, surgical nursing, and hospice care. She received her RN degree from St. Vincent Charity Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH. She continued her nursing education at Western Governors University, receiving her bachelor of science in nursing degree in 2014 and master of science in nursing degree in 2015.

In her role as a nurse navigator, Ms Bellomo is responsible for the facilitation of the medical and radiation treatment processes for cancer patients from diagnosis through survivorship and helps to guide patients through the collaborative process along the continuum of cancer care. In addition, she assists in the development and ongoing evaluation of the cancer care program in conjunction with the Oncology Clinic Program.

Ms Bellomo is a member of AONN+, the Oncology Nursing Society, and the Southern Utah University Honor Society of Nursing. As a member of AONN+, Ms Bellomo serves on the AONN+ Certification Exam Task Force, the Standardized Metrics Development Committee, and is a member of the Evidence into Practice committee and its subcommittees for the Evidence into Practice newsletter and navigation metrics. Ms Bellomo is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for CONQUER: the patient voice magazine.

Ms Brown has been an oncology nurse for over 20 years. Prior to her nursing career she was a secondary English teacher and education researcher. She has worked in both the inpatient and outpatient oncology settings with pediatric and adult oncology patients. She has also been a successful ANCC Magnet project director. She created the first nurse navigator position at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s regional care centers.

Ms McHale received her diploma in nursing from the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing and her bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany. She developed the first navigation program in the Capital Region of New York State in 2006 when she was hired as a breast patient navigator/manager of the Women’s Health Center at Samaritan Hospital. In 2008 she transitioned to Samaritan Hospital Cancer Treatment Center as a nurse navigator, working with patients in both the medical oncology and radiation oncology outpatient centers. She has worked in oncology care in inpatient units and outpatient cancer centers, and as a nurse manager of an inpatient hematology/oncology unit and as a hospice and public health nurse. She was a founding member of the Capital District Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) chapter. She has presented abstracts at AONN+, ONS, and Institute for Healthcare Improvement conferences. She presented at the New York Cancer Registrars Association 38th Annual Conference on “Improving Patient Outcomes with Patient Navigation.” In May 2014, at the ONS 39th Congress, she developed a vignette on Foundational Tools for Oncology Nurse Navigator Programs: Implementing Oncology Nurse Navigator Core Competencies. Her section was on the “Coordination of Care” competency. She has presented annually for the Oncology Core Curriculum for Upstate New York on navigation and survivorship. She has believed in and promoted the navigation commitment, and in May 2016 she organized the AONN+ Upstate New York Navigators Association. She has mentored new nurse navigators from Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York.

Ms Messier is the Clinical Program Coordinator/Nurse Navigator for the upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) multidisciplinary care cancer clinics at The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. Ms Messier graduated from The University of Vermont in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. Since then, she has worked as an oncology nurse at The University of Vermont Medical Center in a variety of roles, including staff nurse on the inpatient oncology unit and as a primary nurse in the Department of Surgical Oncology. She has been in her current role as the upper GI nurse navigator since the initiation of the Upper GI Multidisciplinary Care Cancer Clinic in January 2007 and the nurse navigator for the GU Multidisciplinary Cancer Care Clinic, initiated in March 2012. She has previously served as a Leadership Council member of the Academy of Oncology Nurse Navigators. Ms Messier currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society (NNECOS) and serves as cochair for NNECOS’s Nursing & Allied Health Professional Advisory Committee. In addition to speaking at national conferences, she has contributed to the Cancer Site-Specific Navigation chapter in the Oncology Nursing Society’s 2014 publication, Oncology Nurse Navigation: Delivering Patient-Centered Care Across the Continuum. In 2013, she was a nominee for the Cure Magazine 2013 Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing.
