The mission of the National Breast Cancer Foundation is to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need. The goals of the foundation include increasing awareness through education, providing diagnostic breast care services for women who cannot afford them, and providing nurturing support services. For some breast care centers, this support has included the funding or partial funding of nurse navigators.

A special feature of the organization’s Web site, called Beyond the Shock, offers a global online educational resource that includes easy-to-understand informational videos, stories from breast cancer survivors, and a community Q&A. So if your patients, their families, or you want to learn more about breast cancer, ask questions and get answers, or hear real stories from real people, check it out.

Patients/survivors can also receive a free newsletter from the organization by signing up on their Web site.
