Dear Navigators, Social Workers, Administrators, and Clinical Staff,
The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators ( AONN+) is delighted to work with the Biden Cancer Initiative (BCI) to help advance our common goal of improving outcomes for patients with cancer.
In this issue, we feature our one-on-one interview with Gregory C. Simon, President of the BCI. Mr Simon speaks with us about the evolution of the BCI from the Cancer Moonshot program and the strategic alliances and initiatives they’ve established to accelerate progress in the fight against cancer.
The BCI assembled an advisory panel to reimagine systems and transform how we as a community prevent, detect, diagnose, treat, and survive cancer. Our own Danelle Johnston, MSN, RN, ONN-CG, OCN, Chief Nursing Officer of The Lynx Group, sits on the advisory board of the BCI to ensure the role of navigators is considered as part of the solution to complex issues, including standardizing how cancer is diagnosed and treated, making sharing data the rule rather than the exception, helping patients find and enter clinical trials, and making sure patients are able to effectively navigate their care.
The BCI is interested in hearing from everyone whose life has been touched by cancer through their #cancer FIERCE initiative—including navigators! Visit bidencancer.org/cancer-fierce to share your motivation to improve patient care, your daily resilience in offering your best to patients, or how your job impacts your life. By sharing your experience, we will all be better equipped to impact and improve the lives of those living with cancer.
We are proud to stand with the BCI in the hope of improving the lives of all those touched by cancer. And we invite you to stand with us by becoming a member of AONN+, becoming active in our growing navigation community, and sharing your #cancerFIERCE story.
Sincerely,

Lillie D. Shockney, RN, BS, MAS, ONN-CG
