Mission Statement

The Journal of Oncology Navigation and Survivorship (JONS) promotes reliance on evidence-based practices in navigating patients with cancer and their caregivers through diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. JONS also seeks to strengthen the role of nurse and patient navigators in cancer care by serving as a platform for these professionals to disseminate original research findings, exchange best practices, and find support for their growing community.

An Expanded Resource for Navigating Cancer Care

JONS was introduced in February 2011 as a publication designed to meet the needs of oncology nurse and patient navigators. Each issue features topics related to patient navigation and survivorship care, offering original research, best practices, interviews, case reports, study highlights, and more.

In recent years, we have seen widespread adoption of patient navigation and survivorship care in oncology. Although the US healthcare system is evolving—with an aging population, uncertain healthcare policies, and a looming shortage of oncologists—the ongoing need to reduce medical spending will continue to drive greater reliance on patient navigation models.

This is a critical time for navigation; everyone involved benefits by working together to define the reach and practices of this evolving profession. As nurse and patient navigators assume a more central role in the delivery of cancer care, the need for information and guidance continues to grow. JONS is committed to supporting evidence-based practices and providing a platform for professionals to share their research, perspectives, and best practices.

We welcome your manuscript submissions, ideas, and assistance in making JONS a valuable resource for the oncology navigation and survivorship community. We are interested in articles from medical professionals on a wide range of topics, including navigation and survivorship, for all cancer types and patient populations. Submissions may include studies, reviews, program models, psychosocial issues, long-term management, community outreach, patient education, tracking processes, or other relevant topics.
