Letters from Lillie

Although it may be summer, which is known for being a time that employees take vacations, we all know that there is no vacation for our patients who have been diagnosed and are undergoing treatment for their cancer.
On behalf of myself and the wonderful AONN staff and Leadership Council that I have the privilege of working with, we hope that you are enjoying the new features and benefits we have been launching for you through the AONN website.
As we close out 2012, it is a time to reflect back over the year and smile regarding the accomplishments of the Academy of Oncology Nurse Navigators (AONN).
In the coming months and years, we will continue to focus on your needs and those of the patients you diligently navigate across the continuum of care.
I am very excited about the agenda that is planned for you and hope that you can join me in learning more about navigation and survivorship care from experts who will share their wisdom with us!
The summer months are often a period of time when there is less happening in the “cancer awareness” arena.
As we begin to welcome spring, we are also welcoming the opportunity to conduct more health fairs and other community outreach events to raise cancer awareness.
It is with great excitement that I introduce the first issue for 2012 of the Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship.
Each year, we take time to acknowledge the things for which we are most grateful. Of course, family and health immediately come to mind, but there are also several things in my professional life for which I am grateful.
